Unblock Alexa

Since adding my firewall, my Alexa Echo can't connect. I can see it being blocked in the firewall logs but I don't understand why and how to fix it?

It says Denied - could not associate packet to any connection TCP 443

Sorry new to this device.

  • Hello Ted,

Thank  you for contacting the Sophos Community.

Take a look at this Community Post, it might help solve your issue.

    Regards,

  • Thank you for the response and sorry for the delay in responding, I have to wait till I can try things out of hours.

I essentially wanted the XG to just act as a bridge but if this is the case, why is it blocking things? I have looked at your suggestion above but it says this is for when SSL/TLS encryption is enabled.

My main issue is that there isn't anything to say this is being blocked or stopped, Alexa and Ring just don't fully work. This looks like a really great product but I can't get past this and it means I need to switch back to my Unifi USG :(

Any other pointers greatly appreciated, does it settle down after a while, am I missing some logs somewhere, is there a cleaner config I can set to let everything through and slowly lock it down and if so some pointers to this please. The docs and videos show you how to do certain things but there is only one basic setup bridge or gateway but no run through of the settings, help please.

    regards

    Ted

  • Hello Ted,

    Thank you for the follow-up.

Try doing some basic drop packet capture for the IP of your Alexa from the console of the XG (5>4) You would need to SSH into the XG.

    console > drop-packet-capture 'host x.x.x.x' (x.x.x.x = IP of Alexa or Ringbell)

It should give you some more output as of the packets the XG is dropping.

    Regards,

  • Ok, thanks, I'll take a look. It might take me a while, what can I do with this information as I'm still puzzled as to why things are being dropped when it's in bridge mode and I don't see any alerts? Regardless, I'll hook it back up and look at this.

  • It seems that on updating the firmware, things are a lot better now, Alexa and Ring seem good. I have another issue but I'll raise that one as a new one now, thanks.
