Hardware Requirement for Sophos XG Home: Celeron J1900

Hi,

I am new to Sophos and my colleague keeps telling me that I need a Celeron J1900 in order to run Sophos XG Home on my Windows 10 machine.

I posted a question to Sophos and I was told that there is no specific hardware or specific processor as long as there is the following:

2 NIC

6Gb Ram

Can someone who is familiar with Sophos XG Home kindly advise and confirm?

Thanks.

  • You cannot run sophos XG on a windows 10 pc. XG needs to be the only application running unless it is on a vm.

    1. basically sophos XG for home should have a cpu 4 real cores if possible, 6gb of ram, 2 intel or Broadcom mics (not intel 219 series) and about 60gb of disk.

    Hi Bernard

    Totally agree with here.

Running XG Home on top of your windows (Assuming with any of the Type-2 Hypervisor) would be a bit dicey performance-wise. It's always recommended to run it bare-metal.

I basically run my XG on a Dell Optiplex 7010 (i3 3rd Gen + 8 Gig RAM) and it has 3 extra PCI-e Realtek (r8168) NICs and a 120 GB SATA SSD.

There are around 7 to 8 people using the internet through XG. CPU Idles at 20%-25% and RAM about 50% with IPS, ATP, Sandstorm, and Application filter applied :)

With v18, You'll be fine as you're already planning to get 6 GB RAM and also the limit on the home version. Usually, v18 requires a minimum of 4GB RAM.
