Apply Application-based Traffic Shaping Policy No affecting my youtube application

I created a "traffic shaping default" in applications for youtube to limit it's bandwidth usage. Set the bandwidth with to 2kB( So it should be very slow).

In the firewall rule i checked "Apply application-based traffic shaping policy".

I am still able to use YouTube normally which defeats the purpose of reducing the bandwidth so drastically.

Any assistance will be appreciated.

I followed the step on here community.sophos.com/.../123062

  • Hi,

that is a very simplistic firewall rule. You will need to add IPS and the web proxy. You will also need to tighten your services.

Please review logviewer to see if your firewall rule is the one actually passing the traffic.

  • Hi ,

I made it simplistic for the main purpose of what i am trying to achieve which is making the Application based policy work. Not sure IPS and are the reason for it not to work

  • Hi,

if you review the application list in XG you will find that youtube is a browser based so you would need to use the web proxy to limit youtube not application control.

I tried limiting download, that didn't work, so I tried to block youtube that didn't work. So conclusion you will need use a destination of the youtube FQDN group and apply download limits to that.

I can't test any further due to XG limitations with it IPv6 implementation, you cannot use FQDNs in destinations.
