Sophos XG NIC compatibility I225LM + I219LM

Hi,

I am currently running Sophos XG home on my Qotom device. It was working perfectly until I upgraded to 1gbps connection. Now, I am able to get maximum 300-500mbps speed and the CPU is running at it's maximum.

So I am planning to upgrade my hardware to latest Intel CPU. I have found one dual ethernet NUC (https://simplynuc.com/nuc11i7tz/). It have I225LM + I219LM NIC combination. Any idea whether these both are supported or not?

  • Hi,

the 219 series are not supported, they are considered home use, not suitable for industry.

you might try changing the cpu power saving settings in the bios before purchasing the new hardware. The new cpu needs to be fast with 4 real cores, you do not need an i5 or greater.

  • hi ian,

Thanks for the quick reply. I have i3 4005U processor, it's a dual core.

I have around 10 devices + ~20 IOT devices. I have SSL inspection also enabled so probably that might be causing extra stress.

If i5 is sufficient, I should probably look into upgrading to new Sophos models. Probably this one(https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001457897815.html?spm=2114.12010615.8148356.20.4594138cUsev3O): with Q878GE: Intel Core i7-8550U,1.8GHz to 4GHz should be more than sufficient.

I can see it have 4 x Intel I211AT Gigabit LAN and 4 xIntel I350 Gigabit LAN. I211AT is supported and tested widely by community, so should be sufficient for future upgrades also.

I was tilting towards NUC because it have a 2.5gbps WAN input that would make it future proof for upgrade to 2gbps network.
