More Questions about the move to CM

I ran across this article here that REALLY helped answer my questions that MANY other customer service reps (and even my partner rep) could not answer clearly. I was hoping to re-open the discussion because I had some follow-up questions. Currently, I use SFM on premise and I am able to push firmware updates in mass, something that is VERY helpful when there is a new firmware released. It seems that with CM, I have to add each firewall to a separate account per customer, and then go into that account and click a few links to get to the actual GUI of the firewall. I can update firmware from there but it is a chore and it would be easier to just access the admin portal over WAN (I know, thats not a good idea) and do the firmware updates there. Essentially, there is no way to effect all firewalls at once without making a 'template' which makes no sense because not all firewalls have the same configuration!

LuCar Toni  mentions in the aforementioned article there are going to be some better integrations coming so that a partner can better manage all firewalls as a group from their partner portal. Will bulk firmware updates be available? Will we be able to see a dashboard with all firewalls for registered customers without having to go to each account separately? I really hope that these features will be added because they are integral to day-to-day management of the devices.

LuCar Toni  also mentions that the firewalls must have v18 to configure the firewall. I have not moved to v18 yet (mainly because support in SFM is poor). That being said, I CAN get to the GUI through the central account as described above for the one test customer I moved over. Is there something else that I could do if I was on 18?

  • Central Management was designed to manage the firewalls as a customer. Therefore the focus of the first features was to implement things into the Central Account.

The partner management (for example the MSP business) are things, implemented for partner dashboards in the upcoming future.

SFM will go end of life in the near future (summer). So the movement to V18 and CM is crucial to plan now and not delay .

  • I recently received this message from my partner rep:

XG Firewall Management in Central Admin for MSPs is not done via a Trial Account. Partners create a Monthly Central Admin Account, which doesn’t expire. Central Management for the XG Firewall will always start at the Central Admin Account. A Partner Level Mgmt View will come out later this year.

So, how do I create this partner "Monthly Central Admin Account"? If I log in to my partner account, then click on "Manage Sophos Central" it takes me to something that is labeled "Sophos Central Partner" which really sounds like what I want but there is nowhere to add a firewall without creating a customer as a trail. I seem to remember that I USED to be able to manage my firewalls from here by clicking the "Manage Firewalls" link, but now that just takes me to a template manager...I keep saying I think this is broken and even after showing it to people no one actually can tell me what needs to be done.
