CPU at about 40%

Hi everyone,

I saw last time that my firewall is constantly running at about 40% CPU. Checking it with TOP I can't find the reason why, it says no process wich is taking much CPU.

Anyone had this before, and a solution for this?

Can I check if my hardware is still correct (example disk or something)?

Hi, It depends on the device. Is this any XG Device or any Intel-based Hardware?

When you tried the TOP command, Did you try Shift+P to sort by the process per CPU count/percentage?

Hi. This is a Sophos XG115. I tried TOP command on dirrefent times. I see this (after Shift+P):

But I have it a long time, also after several reboots. Below the system graphs over the last month and year:

Sometimes I have similar weird behavior. The processor can show higher resource consumption, and after some time everything returns to normal. Recently, I even wanted to ask the same question, but it all worked out by itself. Each time it takes several hours or a day. I have a fresh install so I have no logs.

But at my unit it's continue that CPU usage. Also after some time or reboot it's directly the same

Hi,

please log a support case, though 40% CPU is not that bad and is really based around your usage and rule count. Also some IPS updates do cause underlying load. You also appear to be missing two snort process assuming the XG115 is a quad core processor based machine.

Further thoughts is that graph and TOP do not relate.
