Cannot Restore XG125W Rev 1 Firmware to XG125 Rev 3

Recently bought new hardware to replace our 4+ year old XG's.  Was looking to go from XG125w rev 1 to XG125 rev 3 (non wifi).  Had both the old and new upgraded to latest 18 MR4 firmware, went through the entire firewall cleaning everything up (deleted all rules not used in last three months, old services, exceptions, etc).  Did a backup and tried to restore on the new firewall but just get:

Backup cannot be restored on current device

Is this because of the 125w -> 125 difference or something else?  I really would rather not have to recreate the config from scratch....I have two 125w's -> 125 and also a 310 rev 1 -> 310 rev 2 after these that I now worry will have issues.

Side note:  Both 125 rev 3's failed to get through the setup wizard.  Both locked up on updating firmware....let them sit for over a hour each before rebooting.  Looking stuff up that is apparently a issue that's never been fixed.  (see https://community.sophos.com/xg-firewall/f/discussions/101655/firmware-upgrade-during-initial-setup-fails or https://community.sophos.com/xg-firewall/f/discussions/122285/sfos-v18-initial-setup )

  • Hello AllanD,

Thank you for contacting the Sophos Community.

Unfortunately, this backup restoration won’t be compatible due to the mismatching (Wireless vs Non-Wireless) models.

You could however try to use the Export/Import function to get the configuration over for some modules.

    Regards,

  • That's what I was worried about.  I was hoping it would just disregard the wireless part of the config.  Thankfully these are for branch offices that are pretty simplistic so even if I had to redo them it wouldn't be that bad.  As long as as the 310 rev1 -> rev 2 restore works I'll be ok (that ones massive).

Any news on the failing to finish the initial setup?  Looks like the issue has been around for 3 years now based on the posts I linked to.
