AP55 and APX120 performance differences

Hi folks,

I have recently upgraded my AP55/c to APX120.

I have noticed a performance decrease with the APX120.

Devices were able to connect to the 5ghz SSIDs at up to 866mb/s on the AP55s where as the maximum on the APX120 is 412mb/s.

I have checked the configuration of the APX and cannot see any different settings than on the AP55s.

Devices used a re W10 on an intel NUC, iPad, iPhones, mac mini (early 2020). All devices are running the latest version of OS.

Looking for others experiences with APX120s.

Ian

My XG is running V18.0.4 MR-4 with AP firmware 11.0.014-1.

  • Hi,

thank you for your thoughts on the subject. It is not just one device it is any device that connects the 2.4ghz SSID on the APX120.

Tomorrow, I will do a temporary network re-arrangement so I can have the APX120 and the AP55 on line at the same time so I cn the screenshots and post.

  • Well...true is, that it is 40Mhz, as it will not go over 72Mbit on 20Mhz, but i dont understand that drop...

What about 5Ghz, that works fine or is the same problem?

  • Just to be sure, are we talking about Performance differences in "speedtest numbers" or only those "shown numbers on Client/XG"?

    Those are different issues.

Another test would be to move to other channels and check if the connection is better.

  • Hi folks,

they are performance numbers shown by XG against client connections. The channel numbers have no affect on the results displayed.

I will try the speediest between various computers and see what I can achieve.

  • Hi folks,

I give up, the speed tests are difficult to run and fail to provide any meaningful results with the W10 PCs.

  • Hi folks,

  • Not much... with ap55 Mac connects 866?

  • Can you select on the Client, if you want to connect to 40 or 80 MHz? Sounds like your 5 GHz is only connecting to 40 Mhz.

  • This only an issue with the APX120, the AP55 and AP55c all show 866.

The issue is not client dependent eg iPhones, iPad, MBP, mac mini, w10, and mac air (2020 M1) all have the same issue when connected using the APX120.

    Common item - APX120.
