how to change email messages from central.

Hi All,

For a few months now we have been intensely using Sophos central.

The thing we noticed however is that the email alerts from Sophos central are quite lacking in data they provide and the usability of said data.

I tried to find a way to add/change the data that is being sent but so far i have been unable to find a way to change it. Either as customer or partner.

Does anybody know how to add functional things like like hostnames to the emails that are being sent? And also how to prevent Central from sending alerts each time somebody disconnect the Sophos VPN client?(While keeping other VPN related emails)

We also noticed that the failure of services are not being emailed or trigger a failover in any way. which is quite concerning as well. Is this something that has to be enabled manually? and if yes where to do so.

  • There are plenty items to improve in this section in the future, so its currently the case, that all of your listed items are the current state of alerting in Central.

Basically XG forwards everything to Central and Central will forward it via Email to the customer. Therefore the alerting system needs to be improved on XG to improve those sections.

  • hmm. Not entirely the answer i was hoping for.

Do you by any chance know if this is planned to be implemented quickly? as in my opinion this reduces the usefulness of Central quite a bit.

Now we will have to start building IPSEC tunnels to all device and add more licences to our monitoring solution. and if we have done all that we might as well not use central for management anyway as we have direct IP connectivity at that point.

  • I cannot comment on any Roadmap items, because i am acting as a privat person in my free time.

But do not forget, the whole Central process and all items there are actually for free - So the Features in Central could also be used for example for group(config) management, backup management, Reporting etc.

The Alerting is simply one touch of a flavor, which Sophos wants to move to one central platform. If you have a special monitoring platform as a partner, its likely a better approach to maintain the visibility for you as a partner.
