Virtual Interface Removal

All,

According to the online documentation https://docs.sophos.com/nsg/sophos-firewall/17.5/Help/en-us/webhelp/onlinehelp/nsg/concepts/InterfaceManage.html when in the interface section there is a hamburger on the right side of the interface.  After clicking on this menu there should be an option to delete the interface.  However, all that I see edit?  I need to remove three (3) virtual interfaces so how am I supposed to do that?

  • LHerzog,

I had powered down the Virtual Machine (VM) and removed the additional NICs from the VM then powered it up.  this is why it shows N/A for status as the NIC no longer exist.  Could it be there is another location that I am not seeing to remove these three bottom items that show N/A?

  • Its always a bad idea to remove interface from a OS. Those interfaces stick with XG. So in case you need them in the future. If not, it would be possible to backup restore to a new VM.

  • Hi, there are some posts here on the forums. All go in the same direction: don't ever add/remove NICs to XG. This breaks rules and other things. There does not seem to be a reasonable workaround.

    Read this:

    community.sophos.com/.../adding-another-nic-totally-breaks-xg-firewall-and-all-dependent-rules

But I cannot copy LuCar Toni's post "Its always a bad idea to remove interface from a OS." This is usually not a big problem. Of course all references to a removed NIC would have to be replaced manually to an other remaining NIC. Probably XG has so many references to a NIC that it just makes no sense.
