Importing configuration backup to new device

I'm upgrading a clients hardware (xg85) and they are currently running 17.0.3 on their system. 

The new hardware will be running v18. 

Can I simply export a configuration backup from the v17.0.3 device and import it into the v18 device?

    Thank you for contacting the Sophos Community!

    Unfortunately, it won't take the backup! I would recommend if possible to upgrade to at least 17.5 MR9 and take the backup from there, and then you should be able to use the back up on the new XG running v18 Mr3
