XG106 HDMI Port no signal

Question

Hi all, I have a question regarding the HDMI port of my XG106. 
 The XG is running well. When I initially set it up I had to use a monitor directly attached to the applicants via HDMI plus a keyboard attached to USB. 
 Now I was looking for a small monitor to place it next to the appliance to have a console physically attached to the appliance. 
 I connected a HDMI cable and monitor to the appliance but the monitor does not receive any signal from the XG106. 
 
 Does HDMI only work when a monitor is connected during boot of the appliance? 
 I thought it would work as soon as I connect a monitor. 
 
 Any advice?
