There is no prompt, if you have set this up correctly then you should login using the username and in the password field enter the "<users password><one time passcode>"

as I said, new to Sophos but I do not understand the method of distributing the VPN client. It has to be downloaded by the users themselves and in most enterprise/business environments this is not possible because they have no admin rights!

You can distribute Sophos Connect via GPO or SCCM etc (MSI File).

The Configuration will be shared between all clients (Same config file for all users). 

SSLVPN on the other hand, has a config file per user.
