SMTP - Dropped due to TLS engine error: FLOW_TIMEOUT[5] - can't send emails from printers using tls

Hi,

scan to email does not work by using TLS with our HP Officejet Pro printers. The connection will be not established and I tried meanwhile a separate firewall rule from internal printers to WAN without any security and a separate "don't decrypt SSL rule ".

But I receive still a error and it does not work:

Any Idea to solve this?

  • Hi,

the answer is to put an exception and that then defeats the purpose of scanning. Does the printer have a CA installed?

Try using the XG mail proxy with smtp/s scanning enabled.

  • We use office365, no XG mail. Until now it was not necessary to use a certificate. Which exception do you mean?

    Hi ,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community!

If you did not configure email protection on the XG firewall, please disable the SMTP/SMTP scanning rule. This rule is auto created for email protection in MTA mode.

    Thanks,

  • Thanks for your feedback. I have disabled the SMTP scanning. The error still occurs.

If I change the settings from 587 TLS to our relay port 25 the scan to email works.

I figured out that this happens with HPOfficejetPro8730 8720 Serie only.

I tested the settings with an HPOJPro9020 , the same TLS settings port 587 and scan to email works without the log entry "Dropped due to TLS engine error: FLOW_TIMEOUT[5]".
