Website not available via fqdn but can access via ip address

Good Day All,

I have an issue with our organization website. Our website is published in the internet, it has a public ip address, I can access it outside our organizations network successfully but when I'm on our Guest Vlan (dns I used is google dns 8.8.8.8) I cannot access it via fqdn it says "Website not available

I can access the website when im in the main vlan via websites local ip address but since the guest vlan is isolated I cannot allow its local ip address. I also perform nslookup on the website dns and it points out to its public ip address, also when I browsed it via its pub ip address I can access it without issue. My sophos xg is XG310

Anyone can help me out?

Hi,

you will need to add an entry in the XG DNS for that to work.

Hi,

I am not using the XG as the DNS of guest vlan, I'm using google's dns which is 8.8.8.8. Also I cannot allow the internet IP of the web server to guest vlan since I do not want people to access it via its internet IP. I want guest to access it via the Publip ip address of the web server.

Hi,

if you do an nslookup on the guest LAN what is returned. If you try a tracert what does the result show?

When I do an nslookup with the webserver dns the result is it's correct public ip address, when i performed tracert, it hops with the gateway which is the firewall then to the telco. Also I can open the webserver in the browser using the public ip address, I just cant seem to open it via its dns which shows "Website is not available"

Hi,

the more I think about the issue the more it sounds l8ke a browser issue, because the dns returns an IP address, so that would indicate the browser is using the wrong address or modifying the address so it looks up something else.

being on a guest network, the visiting device could have the wrong domain as part of its name.

I already tried several browser including Ms edge but still same error shows up in all the browser ive used.
