RED usage is high, need more details about the traffic

Hi all

i have one of our REDs connected to an ISP with limited monthly bandwidth, the RED exceeded the allowed limits by 10GB!

i am checking the reports and i see that this is correct but no details about the type of the traffic, i need to check what is the user doing to use the bandwidth threshold

and i need to know what to do in order to limit the connection on this RED so it will not exceed the limits anymore

i have XG 230

  • Not sure if you can do that effectively with a RED, especially if running in split mode (clients have direct access to internet via the RED, instead of all traffic tunneled through (unified mode).  You could probably apply some traffic control / throttling to the RED users if you are in unified mode to tone things down (you should also have visibility into what they are doing to eat up all the traffic, like streaming, and block / throttle that).  If Unified mode is not desired, then I'd recommend replacing the RED with a small (or big, depending on the application) XG with network and web protection enabled, and throttle accordingly using the XG traffic control / webfiltering / Application control functions.

  • thanks for reply

the RED is on unified mode, i can see the amount of traffic but not the type

its more important to know what is eating the traffic than controlling it

because the user reported that he is not streaming or downloading anything so we need to know what is going on there

and then decide if we need to increase the bandwidth

the user currently using outlook app, server is at the HQ

    also using intranet portal

    and share drive (documents only)
