Thank you for the update. 

If you do not have an active subscription for email protection, please turn off the auto-added SMTP/SMTPS scanning rule. It seems that the notification emails are intercepted by the email protection module.

If this one I have turned off the scan and received a test mail on gmail but it is still unavailable on our local mail server

You can disable email protection by turning off the auto-added SMTP/SMTPS scanning rule from your firewall.

As I read this thread, I am assuming that the unit was running V17.x and has been upgraded to V18

I had a customers site where I was using the Sophos as an MTA to send emails from MFP devices as they did not support using the Gmail service.

After the Upgrade to V18, this stopped working.

The fix was to change the email server from MTA mode to Legacy mode, restart the firewall and then change the system back to MTA Mode.

Something in the firmware upgrade didn't convert everything properly, and forcing this resolved the issue.
