Google Search in Google Chrome slow

Seeing a puzzling issue at a customer site after putting in a pair of XG's running v18.01.  Open Google Chrome and do a search. it spins for awhile before finally loading the search results.

Using Google search in MS Edge Chromium and its super fast.

I've gone over policies and played with google chrome settings, but no change. Same problem, even if no web or application policy is applied.

Any one else run into this?  Any suggestions?

  • Hello James,

Thank you for contacting the Sophos Community!

Does the same happen if you run Chrome in Incognito mode?

I guess you have tried on different computers and the results are the same?

Can you confirm if the XG has Web Content Caching enabled (Protect >> Web >> General Settings >> Advanced) and if it does, please disable.

    Regards,

  • Hi Emmanuel.

Yes, multiple users had complained about the issue. Issue also remained in incognito mode.

I believe I have found the issue though...old proxy settings (wpad file) from our previous UTM firewalls (been using UTM since the astaro days).

Not sure why the setting affects chrome, but not edge but so it is.  I'm waiting for results tomorrow.

    Thanks,

    james
