Per User Traffic Shaping Not Working

I created a 5 Mbps Limited User traffic policy and applied it to one authenticated user that is signed into CAA. The policy is configured as such.

  • Policy association: Users
  • Rule type: Limit
  • limit up and down seperately: disabled
  • Priority 3: Normal
  • Limit: 625 KB per sec (which is equiv to 5 Mbps)
  • Bandwidth usage type: Individual

So, even though this traffic policy is only assigned to one user, when I check this user's bandwidth usage, it is consuming 8 Mbps (3 Mbps more than the limit in this policy). This traffic policy should be limiting this user's bandwidth to 5 Mbps (625 KB per sec), but it is not.

  • I was able to get user traffic shaping to work after reading the following in another forum posting from Karlos.

"User based TS policy works if you are using the Match Known Users checkbox on your firewall rule and specifying users or groups."

My problem is that I did not have Match Known Users checkbox enabled in my firewall rule.
