restore after firmware upgrade failed?

As of now MR-13 to V18 upgrade support not taken in V18 current latest release.

Note: The upgrade from version 17.5 MR13 to 18.0 will follow soon.

Upgrading from SF 17.5 MR11/ MR12 to v18 MR-1-Build396 is supported.

so If your XG running with version prior to MR-13 release then it should work for you OR may wait for the V18 release version which covers MR-13/MR-14 upgrade support and then you may go for upgrade with that version without loosing configuration.

Since I have upgrade to 18.0.2 MR2 version from the 17.5 MR13 and if I configure the firewall back again without restoring them from the backup, will the v18 MR2 be stable enough to be implemented it on the production or else is it advisable to not upgrade it right now.

It's always good  to have latest firmware on Firewall. As of now no any such open critical known issue with 18 MR-2. However some issue may appear based on setup and configuration and that we can not directly correlate with firmware upgrade without investigation. 

V18 having latest features and enhancement and hope you are familiar with same.
