Sophos XG HOME - slowness

Hi Guys,

Not sure Sophos support their free firewall to home user. We use Sophos for all our clients. So I thought I might as well try one at home. I installed it on HyperV and gave it 2 CPUs and 4GB of RAM. It is usable, but it is slower than my router provided by ISP. It didn't matter at first. I study IT courses from pluralsight and they are blurry and hard to read. So I disabled all the web filtering, https scanning, IPS but still blurry. So I thought I might just have a test by switching back to ISP router before complaining to Pluralsight. Then there was no problem with ISP router. My XG firewall firmware is SFOS 18.0.1 MR-1-Build396 . Please see below for comparison. Any thought?

Hello James,

Thank you for contacting the Sophos Community!

Can you try the following command.

console> set http_proxy relay_invalid_http_traffic off

If that fails please try disabling SSL/TLS and see if that makes any difference.

Hi Emmanuel,

Thank you for your help. I run the command and disabled https scanning. It didn't make different. However I noticed sometimes it came back clear and blurry sometimes.

Would that be problem with running on Hyper V?

Hello James,

Thank you for the follow-up.

Try increasing to 6GB the RAM in the hyper-v and maybe add one more Core.

As noted by Bob the post is in an incorrect group. I will try to move it to the XG group.

I increased the CPU and it is still blur for a few seconds at the start of video and then it get clearer. So it doesn't bother me at much anymore.
