Firewall started crashing most services almost daily

We have a Sophos XG230 installed and working for years. However after i upgraded firmware last week to SFOS 17.5.13 MR-13 we have had issues.

Every day or so the firewall pretty much hangs on most services.

So first thing in the morning users report VPN wont authenticate, then if i try and login to web admin it will not load properly, just gives a white page instead of logon screen or it doesnt load at all.  SSH from a local PC will ask username / password but not accept anything.

The firewall is still passing traffic and applying rules as office internet connectivity is working along with any servers behind the firewall being accessible remotly.

Someone will then goto the device and restart it manually from the LCD panel, it then works for 1-2 days but will then repeat the unresponsive behaviour for VPN / Admin access. And once it stops workingn it doesnt recover itself, longest wait has been 12hrs and it stayed in that state.

I have attempted to go back to firmware SFOS 17.5.12 MR-12 thinking that would fix it, but it did exactly the same, only this time in less than 1hr after the restart.

Oddly it stays working during the day when high number of users are connected via VPN, and stops working out of hours always.

 

I havent ever had to look at system logs on the sophos for anything like this before, any suggestions what logs i should be looking at and what i am looking for?
