Initial install - password?

I successfully installed XG on a PC as instructed.  After reboot, screen comes up "Starting 17_5_`1_664...." and ends with"Password:"

Nowhere can I find what password to use, and the instructions are useless.

The instructions seem to imply that I should ignore the request to enter a password on the screen and (very un-obviously) instead connect a second computer to one of the two network jacks and connect using https://172.16.16.16:4444/

Is it really true that I can't proceed on the machine itself, but need to connect another computer and connect thru it?  If so, how do I know which network jack to use?  Why are the instructions not clear on why I need a second computer to simply set up the firewall?

    Hi David,

    during installation you would have been asked about networks. The best trick is to plug one interface into a network connection and use that as your internal connection.

    The initial setup is done using the console screen, to complete the installation you need to use the GUI which is where you will predominantly configure the XG. You will need to have a WAN connection active to enable synchronisation of the licence and too automatically download all the dynamic files that make a firewall  effective eg anti-virus, IPS etc files

    The default password is admin.

    After you connect the XG to the internet wait a couple of minutes until the updates are completed before trying further installation steps.

    Unfortunately, during installation no questions are asked.  I took the iso file, prepped a USB drive, and then when I booted the computer off the USB drive, it never asked a single question until after install was done and I rebooted it, it came up with "Password:"

    To me, it didn't seem like much setup was done, rather just the install of the system on the PC.  Thanks for confirming I need to do everything thru the LAN connection.  What a pain since I have keyboard, mouse, and screen on the PC.  Instead I have to get another computer and connect it via CAT5 to the second port on the computer, and use that.

    Hi,

    are you trying to install XG as an application on a PC or are you using the PC hardware?

    XG requires exclusive use of the hardware.

    I am setting it up as the exclusive application on the PC, booting off the USB as instructed.  When the screen comes up and asks for a password after installation, the assumption is that I should be able to configure it from there.  Instead I have to go find another computer and connect it to the second network port on this now apparently dumb PC and configure it from a second computer.  I have started to realize that is what I would probably have to do if I purchased one of your appliances, so maybe in somebodies mind it makes sense.  I can take this laptop offline (unplug it from my working network and loose access to emails and other work responsibilities) to plug it into the XG computer and configure it, but that is a PITA.

    Hi David,

    I am still not clear on whether you are installing the XG on hardware, if so it is no longer a PC and you need to login to the GUI to configure the XG firewall using another PC/MAC.

    Once you have completed the initial installation, synchronisation  etc, then you can log into he console if you wish to continue the configuration , but that is hard work and not recommended.

    Hello David,

    So when you install the XG in a Hardware Computer, that computer becomes the XG, it wouldn't be a computer anymore, that is why you need a "Second" computer to configure the XG through the GUI. The XG is not a device that has to be configured through CLI, which is where I think your confusion comes. 

    If you would have purchased one of our appliances, you would only need to connect one Laptop to Port1 to be able to access to 172.16.16.16:4444 to start configuring the Firewall.

    Hi David,

    to add further, the XG does not have any video drivers so the laptop display will not work after a reboot because the BIOS is not given access the display.

    That is the problem - when it reboots, (not a laptop, a PC with monitor attached), a screen does come up on the monitor and it asks for a password.  If it instead said "installation successful, connect to LAN port to configure" it would have made sense.  Coming up with the "Password: " implied I still needed to do something on the console and the prompt threw me.
