Add Another IP Address Range to Existing Port?

We have recently upgraded out internet line and as part of that added a additional 5 IP addresses.  However they could not add to the ones we currently had and we also couldn't give up the ones we had.  So is there a way to add the new ones to the exist interface and have them work?   Example:

Existing IP addresses:   200.100.50.40/29  (GW is .41, 42-46 usable, mask is .248)

New IP Addresses:  200.100.58.40/29  (GW is .41, 42-46 usable, mask is .248)

I cannot figure out how to add these.  I can try adding as a alias like 200.100.58.42/29 but there is no where to enter the gateway.  Do I have to setup a second interface and have a small switch between my ISP modem and the two ports on the XG?

  • Hello AllanD,

Thank you for contacting the Sophos Community.

Yes, you would need to add a second interface for this new subnet, and yes you would need to put a small L2 switch in front of the XG, as I suspect the modem provided by your ISP only has one Port.

  • Hi,

please check with your ISP about the gateway because I think from memory the additional address range uses the existing gateway and is handled by your ISPs gateway/router.

It does only have one port so that's unfortunate.  I was hoping there would be a way to bridge two physical ports on the XG or bind a "virtual" port to the physical port.  We have a good Layer 2 switch next to it, I'll just make a private VLAN for it.

Yeah, that's the first thing I checked and they said no and gave me a separate gateway address.
