Hi together,
from our legal department, I was provided terms of use for our guest wifi. I wanted to use the sophos Wifi hotspot for guest wlan. Unfortunately I had issues with the length of our terms of use.
In general only 8192 characters length are accepted. Why? People from the legal department want to be save in regards of regulatories and stuff and don't want to be short of words.
However, I managed to remove some lines and shorten the text so that I finaly had terms of use with 8190 characters.
There I ran into a bug. The hotspot could be setup sucessfully but when I tried to access the guest wifi, the sophos appliance was unable to display the terms of use default website. Only a white, empty page from the guest vlan gateway IP was delivered, rendered the devices unable to access the internet through guest wifi.
I found out, that I had to remove additional characters until I had around 8060 characters in my text. Then finally, the terms of use acceptance page was shown without issues.
It could be possible, that German umlauts (ä, ö, ü, ß) take more space then default characters? (only my assumption, didn't waste more time with further testing)
In general, I would not see a reason for a limitation to only 8192 characters for a text that might need to deliver legal information for many different situations. Would it be possible to double that size at least?
Kind regards,
David
