Register Heartbeat and Management on seperate Accounts

Hi,

with the migration of firewall management to sophos central, i noticed an area that needed improvement.

It is that firewall management and the security heartbeat, which is part of endpoint protection, should be able to run on different Sophos accounts.
why?
simple answer, sophos managed service providers manage customers' firewalls, but over 80% of administrators manage Sophos Endpoint themselves.
Why? Because Sophos Endpoint really is incredibly easy to use. An admin who does a trial run will not spend money on a managed service.

But for the two to work together, heartbeat must go to the endpoint's central account and management to the service provider's central account.

I'am alone with this or is there a another way?

Any feedback welcome :)

  • Sophos is going to implement another approach to this.

Central Admin is a instance for the customer. As the Firewall and the Endpoint will be managed in one instance.

The Partner (or Service level manager) do have access to this Central admin instance, if the customer likes to give this to the partner.

There is some work in progress to improve the handling of the partner for multiple customers at once.

The partner should basically not use one central admin account for all his partners. As those data coveres data by all his customers, it will be mixed and could lead to other issues.

MSP on the other hands are likely not managed by the customers, as far as i can see. Most customers i know, are "all in" for MSP or not. Such numbers like ~80% does FW MSP but not EP MSP are new to me.

Are you a Sophos partner or Customer?

  • Sorry, wrong account used^^...thanks to SSO.
Yes we are a Sophos partner and come from UTM/Astaro.
They had SUM, a really cool tool to manage the customer's firewalls as MSP.

With XG, Sophos has gone through a lot, through the Firewall Manager on Premise and the Central Firewall Manager. Both tools were never really perfect.
Now with Sophos Central I see a really great potential here.

    What's missing is a single-pane-of-glass management tool.
In Partner Central I can't see if the firewalls are working properly, but if I have all the firewalls in a Central account I can see if something is going on via Dashboard.

  • That is the way, Sophos is following up this process - Integrating Central Management into the Partner Portal (Dashboard) to give the partner a better integration.

As of now, this is integrated for the customer in mind.
