Would you still get Sophos XG for Home usage?

I am currently researching a firewall solution for home usage. I currently have Ubiquiti AmpliFi mesh router at home and I am looking for better visibility and protection for the kids internet usage.

Important features I am looking:

  • Block distracting sites (YouTube, etc) during homework and school time
  • Block Ads
  • Block adult content and inappropriate sites on the kids devices only

Would you still get Sophos XG Free Home if you were starting over? Do you think it is better in comparison with Untangle or pfSense?

What hardware do you recommend? I was looking at Protectli or Qotom. Would they be good choices?

Thanks for your help!

  • Hello the-tx,

Thank you for contacting the Sophos Community.

The XG Firewall Home edition features full protection for your home network, including anti-malware, web security and URL filtering, application control, IPS, traffic shaping, VPN, reporting and monitoring, and much more.

So it will cover the features you are looking for.

As per hardware, just keep in mind that home edition is limited to 4 cores and 6GB of RAM, the host device can have more than this but the XG will not be able to use them.

    Regards,
