Load Balance Outbound Connections v18

Hi,

We have two WAN connections and one device that I want to load balance connections across the two WAN connections using Weighted Round Robin. For everything else, I want to use source IP based load balancing (or possibly source+dest balancing) so that all outbound connections for any given source IP are bound to a WAN.

If XG had load balance groups this could work but v18 doesn't yet have this feature.

Is there any other way I could achieve this? The best I can come up with is to use WRR but the have rules with primary and secondary gateways to artificially split other hosts across the WAN links. Both primary WAN links use the same technology and outages normally affect both at the same time, and this workaround does not allow the two backup links to activate, so it still isn't ideal.

The other frustrating thing is that the traffic i'm interested in distributing across both WAN links is very outbound heavy, and any load balancing is likely looking at total bandwidth on each link and so will probably not make a good decision about which WAN link to use in this case. Links are asymmetric (50Mbps down / 10Mbps up).

Thanks

James

  • So I want the single host to balance outbound connections across both links. Both links are up, balancing is set to WRR, but all outbound connections are going to only one link.

Sometimes the right thing appears to happen, but in most cases all the connections just cluster onto one link, even though the other link is idle (~5% capacity)

Are there any known issues relating to this?

    Thanks
