High latency on Sophos Central Firewall Manager and local XG106 web interface

So much latency when working in the web protection exceptions on the local XG106 or on the templates for Sophos Central Firewall Manager.

This latency and auto logout and slow loading times on the Sophos website is making what could be a 30 minute job take all day. Any suggestions, Tips Tricks? I'm looking to create a base template with all my web exceptions to just clone for future installs.

Is this a common experience? I don't have issues with other brands such as Sonicwall.

  • Hello,

I had the same problem when I was about to migrate from SFM (On-Premise Sophos Firewall Manager), to SCFM (Sophos Central Firewall Manager hosted in the Sophos Cloud services).

I tested SCFM for about one week, configured 4 firewalls on it, from XG105 to XG210, but the latency was much more higher than my local SFM.

So I decided to continue to manage all the firewalls through my On-Premise SFM v200 hosted on a Hyper-V VM.

(But that's also because I had the problem that I spent much time to create templates on my on-premise SFM, and I had no way to migrate or copy them on SCFM and I didn't want to spend time again to create those templates...

    Regards.

  • I started working on Sophos after taking over a few customers with Sophos systems already in place.

Its been quite the ordeal. It takes too long to implement these exceptions, there is no import option on the cloud side, and the portal logs out after a short period or stalls every once in awhile. I don't see the viability when its adding so much time to do these simple tasks. With how much effort it takes to setup and maintain or debug. I've sunk too much time into these things.

  • Hi guys and gals,

things you need to consider when using the central management service

1/. the load on your XG

2/. how much spare memory is available on the XG

3/. the speed of your outgoing link

4/. the load on your incoming link

5/. which version of XG are you running V18 has a better performance than v17.

  • 1. Minimal load, a couple computers on a lab network

    3. 10Mbps up

    4. No load atm

    5. was v17 now its v18 with default settings and no protection features enabled.

  • Its most definitely the SCFM and I can see that these issues date at least 8 months back so I'm just going to abandon the entire platform because its not commercially viable.

    Issues with SCFM

*Entire site is slow and pages timeout periodically
    *Sessions expire within an hour
    *MFA sometimes fails mid redirection
*Firewall status is inconsistent and unreliable
