XG firewall slowing internet traffic

I recently migrated for a software home UTM firewall to a software home XG system. This was done as a clean install to a similar PC (Dell Optiplex 7010 / 8GB / 250GB HD onboard NIC and RealteK dual NIC addon card). My internet connection is a slow ADSL and faster 4G router, with the 4G router being set as primary WAN interface and the ADSL as fail over.

Whilst I could get the config to what seemed reasonable I noticed that the internet speed was considerably down. Much playing and I noticed that the addon card NIC's were both stating 100MB auto-negotiation and after some reading decided that it was likely a hardware compatibility issue so ordered an Intel based dual NIC card. This was subsequently installed and the config restored, the network adapters now reporting 1GB auto-negotiated - all good I thought.

Tried running an internet speed tester (https://www.broadband.co.uk/broadband-speed-test/) and found the speeds to be download / upload 4.3Mbps / 0.7Mbs. I then connected the PC directly to the 4G router and reran the test - 56.7 / 12.5. Several retests before and after the XG with similar results.

Conclusion - it appears to be an issue with the firewall but I've no idea what / how to troubleshoot. Hardware doesn't appear to be resource limited - CPU runs 3-4% and memory 32-35%

Anyone got any thoughts how I can try to resolve this issue?

Thanks,

Colin

  • Hi Viken,

Not sure what you need but hopefully this gives you the info? The LAN side config is an 'internal' network and a guest WiFi 'DMZ' and the rules are to block traffic from one accessing the other, plus a rule to block some IP cameras from accessing the WAN.
