SSH and Web Interface Not Working

Hi,

We have an XG86 firewall which seems to be dropping all remote access to it - meaning neither the web interface, nor SSH or telnet either remotely or on site, respond.

This is a replacement of a previous XG86 which did the same thing. Has anyone had the same issues and if so, how was it fixed?

  • Hi

What is the status of LEDs on the device?

Are you able to ping the LAN or WAN IP?

Could you please connect the device over serial console and check are you able to access the device console? - https://community.sophos.com/kb/en-us/123197

  • As the firewall is a remote one, this isn't an option - however, I can confirm there is activity as it was still passing traffic despite the web interface and SSH access being down.

Luckily, an hour later, the interface came back up - and it appears it went down (along with the site-to-site VPN) because it had filled the /tmp/ folder and ran out of space.

I found this out by trying to restart the VPN service and getting an "Out of space" error. After speaking with a Sophos Support Engineer, I was told this is apparently a known issue with the XG86 and XG106 firewalls whereby if firewall rule logging is switched on, it will fill the drive up and crash unless rebooted every 30 to 40 days.

    Not ideal.
