XG Home Software Edition on the SG 135 Rev. 3

Hello, everyone,

I have already found some posts on the subject. But at the end there is usually no clear result.

Hence my question:
Does the XG Home Software Edition V18 or V17.5 run on the SG 135 Rev. 3?

Do all network ports work?

Who uses the SG 135 Rev. 3 with the XG Home Software Edition?

Thanks for an answer.

Many greetings
Felix

  • Hi Felix,

in general Sophos Home Editions work on Hardware Appliances as well.
What sometimes can happen is that the mapping of hardware interfaces to the virtual Ports is buggy but you can handle this via changing MAC adresses on the appliance. I have a SG125 Rev. 2 and it works like a charm. I do not have any experience running a Home Edition on an SG135 :/

  • Hello,

Can you please elaborate on "changing MAC address on the appliance"? (from the console or after setting it up?)
The reason why I asked that is because I was able to fully install version 18 on a SG105 but when I installed on a XG135w I got stuck with non working NIC's after the BIOS and registry check on boot up.

The post is here just in case you are wondering what happened: https://community.sophos.com/products/xg-firewall/f/hardware/119974/sophos-xg-home-xg-135w-testing-the-ethernet-card-fail-on-all-ports

    Thank you,

  • Hi Niko,

I didn't change mac addresses. Because this, I couldn't help. Sorry.

To enable interfaces on Sophos, you must configure the right interface.

You can try to boot Clonezilla via USB and select a network target like SMB. Clonezilla list all network interfaces and check the link status.

    Greetings

  • Hello Felix,

The interesting part about is that the ports work if I install UTM OS.
And I also installed pfsense and all 8 ports work.

Not sure where the issue stands.... I will probably say that XG Home edition does not support Sophos XG135w, or at least it looks like.
