Cannot receive backup email: 504 5.5.2 <Sophos>: Helo command rejected: need fully-qualified hostname

Hello. I am using built-in mail server on Sophos XG18 to send weekly backup emails to myself. While testing backup email, I received following errors and was not able to get backups on my email:

SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO:<[REDACTED]>:
    504 5.5.2 <Sophos>: Helo command rejected: need fully-qualified hostname

Is there a way to change the name from Sophos to something that looks like FQDN (e.g. Sophos.fw)?

  • I tried it but it did not work. To start with my hostname was not Sophos but in `HELO` command you can see it passes `Sophos` as argument which is supposed to be FQDN. Now, I followed that link above. I created real DNS entry (I have couple domains) for my FW and added it in FQDN list and also as hostname in Admin Settings. I rebooted FW and it still uses Sophos as fqdn in HELO command.
