XG Home: initial installation process via HDMI, Display Port, or VGA only?

I am long-time XG Home user, preparing to move over to new hardware (out of concerns for the reliability of my age-old hardware). My years-old recollection was that the initial installation process was via VGA and keyboard … and after that initial installation, everything was done thru the admin portal on the LAN port. The forums have dated and conflicting information on how the initial installation process works with the latest version of XG … and I'd like to avoid the stress of "OMG, it isn't working on my new hardware!"

Some of the aforementioned forum posts imply that the installation process ONLY works via VGA. I am hoping that is not the case, as my new hardware has only HDMI and Display Port.

The email from Sophos with my new XG Home License is entirely vague on the matter: "Install the downloaded image on your preferred hardware or virtual environment."

Any recent first-hand experience with a VGA-less machine would be greatly appreciated!

Happy Holidays,
Bruce.

  • HI Bruce,

you didn't ned a new licence, your old licence will work with your new hardware.

If the display is provided by a seperate card, then there is a very good chance you will not see the installation prov=cess beyond the initial boot.

If you display is provided on the motherboard then you should see the entire installation process.

The above are based on my recent experiences.

Thanks for the super-prompt reply. The display is on the motherboard, either HDMI or Display Port. Sounds like either of those ports will work during the installation process. That's wonderful news, as _if_ there is an error it would be quite swell to be able to read it.

    Cheers,
    Bruce.
