Sophos is deleting Ideas ...

I will try to be polite on that one.  Besides other few notifications I received from Sophos advising me Ideas have been suposely “implemented”, this particular one struck me like lightning.

If “Improving logging and try to get it on par with the competition” does not ring a clue to Sophos, nothing, but absolutely nothing will ever.  Is it so hard to survey competitors’ firewalls to list those many VERY obvious caveats to Sophos’ logging ?  When Sophos hire personal, they have never played with any other firewalls in the market before ?  I presume that ideas log (if we can call “having logs on par with others” an idea) have become unmanageable, piled up with items dating since the beginning of XG.

Clearly Sophos is suffering resources shortage and those who require improvements will have no choice but to look elsewhere because like I have written before, XG is a decade long project.

  • Paul,

    Did you provide feedback?

  • Not sure I understand that question.

Caveats on log viewers have been discussed ad nauséam over the last 3 to 4 years.  There are dozens, if not hundreds, of comments regarding this on the forum.

It is not hard to compare to Checkpoint, not to name it, in 5 seconds it becomes obvious ...

  • Paul,

I added my comments on the idea.

Logging is the bad part of XG at the moment. UI Logging is USELESS. We need logging like UTM9, Palo Alto or Checkpoint style. That's the truth!

Now log pages are slow, conntract is visible only on advanced shell, flow monitor is missing and if you add an active directory server and something is missing, check the UI logs and try to understand from the output what the problem is. So, still on v18, UI logging is USELESS.

You need to be confident with tail, awk, cat, find and grep to work on XG, but not all customers are confident with Linux or other commands so they moved away alread to Checkpoint and Palo Alto last year and now some other customers I follow will move away for LOGGING and REPORTING module.

@SOPHOS: WE NEED LOGGING AND REPORTING LIKE UTM9

I hope it is clear enough! The idea should be kept opened.

P.S: Well done for Web filtering and threat intelligence on v18.

    Best regards

  • Paul,

    in addition to your post:

Sophos is cleaning up the feature request page: ideas.sophos.com as many of them have been implemented, merged or cannot be satisfied. I requested this clean-up many times, as people, new customers investigate on google how the product performs, roadmap and having such a great area but not kept updated, is unprofessional.

Finally, Sophos Management is taking care at that area.

    Kudos to them, finally!

Hope they keep the section up to date.
