Netgear CM700 - Xfinity/Comcast Setup Plan

I'm looking for some guidance on how to configure Sophos XG 17.x for use at home.

I'm having difficulty in the initial setup getting the WAN side hooked up on XG.  It is not detecting a connection when the cable modem is connection is plugged in.  The UI shows an 128.x.x.x address.  Do I need to use my public IP address (DHCP) and gateway manually enter that in for the WAN address?  The only place I can see that information is in my router (AC1900).

My layout is:

Xfinity/Comcast -> NetGear CM700 (modem) -> Sophos XG (running on ProtectLi hardware) -> NetGear (AC1900)

My problem is the cable modem has very little information available to me.  The modem UI access is 192.168.100.1.  When logged in, I can reset factory settings, reboot, look at logs, and set a password. Does that mean it is running in bridge mode?  If so, how is it offering the 192.168.100.1 address (NAT?)

I'm fairly technical and using this in part to learn more about the firewalls my team supports at work.  I have a limited background in network configuration.  I usually just need a nudge in the right direction.
