Restoring backup from a wireless appliance to a non wireless appliance ... It is about time this becomes possible.

Say one have a wireless appliance.  XG115W, XG125W, XG135W.  Backup from any of these devices cannot be imported - no matter the number of ports - to a no wireless device.

So, one have an XG115W, he cannot import any backup to an XG115, or XG125, or XG135, or XG210 or nothing else that's not wireless.

It is about time this non-sens be addressed and fixed.

  • Totally agree on that. The import should report the issue and try to fix or inform the user that “some configuration will not be imported, such as Wi-fI, and so on”.

    This is ridiculous!

  • This limitation is kinda interesting, because in the field, i saw only one partner pointing out this limitation.

Simply because most likely a customer will stick to the Hardware (XG115w - Stays on this hardware).

Its quite rare case, that a customer replaces his XG115w with a XG125 (without w).

But i agree, this limitation should be removed.

PS: The partner pointing out this limitation used the Export / Import function instead - Worked for him. So its not a final dead end in this case but you need a appliance to get the configuration.

  • Worse case for Sophos is when a customer wants to pimp up from an XG135W ...  Migration costs explosion.

Luca, imagine that your appliance fails and you only have your backup file (I am talking about for small customer), you buy a bigger appliance (because new realease requires more resources and you also decides that the AP in the room does not spread Wi-Fi correctly so you go for a Sophos AP and....) you need to start from beginning....

This is not fair and just unprofessional. Do not forget magic quadrant guys. This is "stupid" limitation!

I hope you can notice the team to remove this limitation.

    Thanks
