SSL VPN : what you need to know to win TIME !

Hi,

My project was to set up a SLL VPN in a Sophos XG106. After 8 hours of unsuccessful connections [:@], and some questions/answers with Support, I discovered that :

1. The SSL VPN was correctly configured on appliance (and the appliance was in latest firmware version, of course !)

2. The SSL VPN Windows client established the tunnel and cannot ping the remote resource (for example : a server) - very frustating

3. The SSL VPN MacOS OpenVPN installed in TunnelBlick could ping the resource and didn't mount the smb share.

What we need to know, in a few words :

2. Windows : if an other SSL VPN Client has been previously installed on your computer, be sure to uninstall it or, at least, to delete the virtual adapter displayed in the Sophos SSL VPN Adapter (in my case, when I uninstalled NCP Filter, everything was solved in a minute !)

The related error was : log status of Sophos Client : "NOTE: FlushIpNetTable failed on interface".

 3. MacOS : in 3.7.8 version of TunnelBlick : you have to select this version of OpenVPN in Settings Window : Latest (2.4.6 - OpenSSL v1.0.2q) to Default (2.3.18 - OpenSSL v1.0.2q)

After that, you are able to connect to the remote share drive of the server (which was in my case a MacOS Server).

I hope it will help you to save time ! [Y]

 Olivier
