DHCP lease time change bug? DHCP old method

I've got a sophos XG 210 rev 3 and I recently changed the DHCP scope times from default, to something longer. I'm using DHCP old method still, on 17.5.7

The next day, the clients all still had internet access and maintained their previous lease, however, none were showing up in the DHCP leases list on XG because they had expired.

Had to unplug and plug every phone/computer to renew IP's and get them populated on XG.

Is this normal? And is it okay to make the default lease time, and max lease time the same? (I am doing 30 days now to improve Report usability since they don't show hostnames...)

  • Hi,

I like you changed my lease times after the gateway bug. I have lease times from nearly 30 days to 3 hours. All seem to be updating in the XG DHCP tables. Some addresses are dynamic and others are static.

Now there are a couple of possible issues

1/. XG does not publish lease times to the clients (more likely)

2/. the clients fail to act on the lease expiry notification (least likely given the range of devices).

So to debug you will need to run a tcpdump or packet capture to see if the XG DHCP server is sending the lease duration at address request time.
