Something seriously wrong with XG MR -7

Hi folks,

this morning my MBP showed failed mail connections due to timeouts to various mail servers. I checked 4 devices with 6 mail accounts between them to 4 different mail servers and the results was the same on all of them. Thi failure happened sometime in the early hours of today 20th Aug Melbourne time because some of the overnight reports arrived.

I tried restarting one device to see if that has any affect, but timeout ws still the result. I opened and saved the network -> WAN connection and only one  messages arrived when there should have been two.

Between all the mail accounts yesterday there were over 4900 TCP 993 confections and 328 IMAPS connections.

Web surfing worked without any issues.

I disabled wifi on one device and connected via 4G network and mail downloaded so that implied an XG issue. I checked the logs and could see the mail requests being sent and responded to by the various mail servers but nothing was airing at the user mail boxes.

So, I restarted the XG and bingo all the missing mail messages arrived.

Now after the XG restart the Apple APP store no longer connects, but the MBPs can now check for OS software updates. This is the exact opposite to what was happening before the restart.

The XG had be up for over 13 days prior to this restart.

  • Hi

The reported issue seems to be very strange, I would recommend to contact technical support to check the issue further if it will occur again.

  • Hi Keyur,

I am a home user so limited to forum support.

Tomorrow I do a restore from a known good backup, providing I can find the password. Failing that I will install a new SSD and install from scratch also using a known good backup.

Assumes I can find the correct password.

Found the correct password, but the latest backup is corrupt, so I will have to experiment until I find a recent one that is accessible.

  • Bad news - automatic backups via mail have been broken since MR-6. Manual backups work fine, but I don't have any the precede my current issue.

Not looking forward to starting the configuration from scratch.

  • Hi folks,

an update. I was cleaning up some not used firewall rules one of which uses tcp3128. I deleted this rule and all of a sudden my Apple App store update process started working.

I have since restored a number of backups, used and deleted proxy configurations in my MBP and iPad but have not been able to reproduce the failures. I did notice the Apple App updates started working without adding all the FQDNs provided by Dom Nik.

While testing with simple firewall rules I found according to the XG my wife's and my MBPs were using ultra surf proxy along with vpn360. Now according to the VPN360 site it has to be installed. I have searched for the installation of the software and not found it. Also ultra surf only showed up when an open firewall rule was used, so what is the XG continually mis-categorising?

Not a good outcome because nothing was resolved.
