High MS on ping causing Request Timed Out and lose of Internet

The hardware I'm working with is an XG210 and two AP100C access points.

The ping response starts at around 4ms but after some internet use, it starts to spike at 100ms to 300ms. It eventually starts to get a "request Timed out" in-between a high ms ping response.  Eventually, the "Request Timed Out" increases and the user to gets a slow internet connection to no internet causing the user to have to disconnect and reconnect.

The setup of the environment is as followed:

2 access points plugged into a Netgear gs752tpp switch

Thank!

Brian

  • There are couple of approaches to Wireless Issues.

    • Make sure the XG is on latest version
    • Control connection XG <> AP must be established (tcp/2712)
      • tcpdump -nei any port 2712
    • Seperate Zone connection works through udp/8472 (VXLAN)
      • If there is seperate zone issues make sure udp/8472 is possible / relevant for DHCP requests as well
      • tcpdump -nei any port 2712 .
    • Check if all clients or just a single client is affected
    • Check if a single SSID is affected or all SSIDs
    • Check if one or all APs are affected
    • Check if only one single type of client is affected
      • eg. Laptop / Smartphone / Tablet / Desktop w/ WiFi
    • Check how many clients are connected to the AP
    • Check if the error also occurs when only one single client is connected to the AP
    • Check if the error also occurs with ‘Bridged to Lan’ and/or ‘Separate Zone'
    • Check if the error occur only with a specific encryption type
      • If yes, which one? Does it work without any encryption?
    • Check if only clients in the 2.4 GHz band affected and/or in the 5 GHz band
    • Check if other non Sophos APs in the same area are streaming the same SSIDs
    • Try to change the channel of the affected APs , so that no access-points are on same channel
    • Try to increase/decrease the TX-power .
