Question about : Sophos XG 17 - Web Server - Protection Policies - Antivirus - download/upload

Hi guys,

I have a doubt about the referential of the upload/download for the Antivirus Scan in Sophos XG server protection. I would imagine that the upload/download is FROM THE SERVER since it's talking about the server protection, but I have some doubt after watch the traffic latency which is higher when the Client upload stuff to the server and the setting is set to upload  (consistent with the upload from the client not the server). It could be a bad coincidence too, but it's weird.

I couldn't find any documentation that clarify that point either

Please if you know the answer let me know it drives me crazy.

Thanks,

Chris.

  • Web Server Protection (WAF) is basically a Reverse Proxy.

Like the Name said, it works like a "standard Proxy" just "reverse".

So you would protect a Web server in your Setup, that outstanding person access this Resource (most likely via WAN).

If somebody Downloads or Uploads something from your Webserver, this is the place where Sophos XG will scan the traffic.

  • The lag does hurt, but a simple reminder that it is much more secure especially if you have other companies uploading data and you do not know what there security policy is or if they even have one.  It is worth it.  Imagine the reverse, you can upload faster but you get a malware infection and the site goes down for 2 days...........
