Firmware Update in a cluster - Both firewalls updating concurrently ?!

Hi,

I am currently testing some functionality on a clustered XG 550 firewall.

I was told that when doing a cluster update first one firewall is updated an then the other.

Today I uploaded the SFOS 17.5.7 MR-7 to the slot that was not active on the firewall.

Afterwards I booted the new firmware in the inactive slot.

I got an message Dialog that stated "All the devices in the HA Cluster will reboot simultaneously.

Do you want to continue?

I press ok and both firewalls are rebooting/going offline and come online a couple of minutes later. During this time both firewall show "Sophos Protection" in the display.

Is this really the normal behaviour? I'd have expected that one of the firwall was updated in the background,

then HA Failover to the updated firewall an afterwards the other firewall is updated. This should be state of the art.

Am I doing something wrong or the wrong thing?

Regards,

Bernd

  • TLDR version:

    Use: "Upload and Boot"

I believe you can also use the 'install' feature after downloading the latest firmware below the upload options.

Do not use "Upload Firmware" and then "Boot Firmware" as this will do what you have experienced.
