Sophos Connect kills wireless NICS

Hello All.  We have a Sophos XG230 with the latest firmware as of 7/8/19.  We have been having a perplexing issue with Sophos Connect (latest version) and Windows 10 1809 systems and forward.  We have computers that have an Intel 7260 wireless chipset.  If we install Sophos Connect and run it for a while eventually the wireless NIC will no longer enable or work.  As soon as we uninstall Sophos Connect the wireless works perfectly.  We were able to replicate this on 6 different systems.  Sometimes it will happen right after we install Sophos Connect.  Note that we do not even have a profile setup in Sophos Connect.  We can take a fresh install of Windows 10 1809 or higher and the wireless works great.  As soon as Sophos Connect is installed the wireless NIC is no longer operational.  Sometimes we can go a couple days with Sophos Connect working and then all of a sudden wireless is dead until we uninstall.

We believe this might be tied to the June 19 Cumulative Update of Windows 10 but are not sure about that.  For now we are going to get SSLVPN going for a fall back.

The Intel wireless NIC's are all up to date with the latest firmware.

Has anyone seen this happen?

Thanks

Dave

  • Hi Dave,

Have you opened a support case as this is something definitely needing looked into and especially as you can recreate on multiple systems.

I have personally not seen the issue but am interestes nevertheless.

  • Hi

I have observed issues with the early Sophos Connect Client.

When I had 17.5.MR3 running, I had issues with a couple of laptops which were running Wifi, but didnt pay too much attention to it at the time, as I moved to another VPN Client software due to no MSGINA support in Sophos Connect.

I do know that 17.5 MR6 did have a new version of the Connect client, so you may wish to update your unit to that or MR7 and try that client. I know its different because the KB data talks about being able to run login scripts

FYI, I have been using the GreenBow VPN client. Costs money, but quite good, works with the Sophos Connect config and supports connect before login (MSGINA)

    Regards
