Xg sudden death - new firmware?

Dear all,

Updated firmware two days ago and now that :( firewall died. Only able to acces it via console

Seems to be a filesystem Mount error. Already checked wires but looks fine.

Any advice?  Thanks

    I'm afraid you are stuck with no other option then call Sophos.  That looks like another drive corruption.

    I bought a brand new XG210 appliances + 3 years service for $300 on EBay last month in an attempt to prevent being without firewall for days.  It took Sophos a full working week to ship me a replacement appliance.

    Fortunately I have a backup utm running and a pfsense but need to reconfigure quite a lot to amend subnets

    I will try to reinstall or change the ssd because it is no Sophos Hardware.

    Thought there are some chkdsk or repair tools I could try beforehand

    Wait, in the image you put up, you installed v17.5.5 but it's still trying to load v17.5.4 and failing as it's in the wrong SF Load. Try jumping into the SF Loader at bootup and load back into v17.5.4 then re-upload the v17.5.5 GPG file via the GUI. If that doesn't work, just re-install.

    Hey,

    I have tried my luck with both images because I thought in the fw routine something got mess up. It does nothing with both.

    Will try to reinstall.

    Hope to get that full boot from usb stick process managed via console not having to unplug it from the rack and plug it to my tv...

    Hi Paolo,

    Ok, seems both firmware partitions are fubar.

    If you have the recent revision, there is a USB console in the front of the box that i regularly use to install XGs successfully.

    Otherwise you'll need a serial adaptor.

    Reinstall did not work. Tried several times but there were an error while formatting the partitions. So looks like a hardware issue with the ssd. Tomorrow I will receive a new one and give it a try again

    Unfortunately the last config backup is a bit longer in the past :(

    Hi Paolo,

    Sounds like the licensing and/or HW partitions got messed up.

    What kind of messages were you getting?

    Hey.

    Don’t remember. Could check tomorrow but within the first longer step of formatting it aborts saying that there is an error. Maybe an formatting error. Try to format the ssd with an usb adaptor tomorrow. Maybe it works later on

    There are plenty of third parties utilities to check that SSD’s state. Also, Intel, Samsung, and all others have their own OEM tools.  Those tools works at a hardware level and are agnostic to partition and higher level processes.  I.e. If it fails there, it will fail everywhere.
