RED - average downtime during firmware upgrade

I manage several XG firewalls and about a dozen RED15's and RED50's connected to some of these XG's.

Whenever I upgrade the firmware of these RED's I notice that some RED's are faster back online than others. Downtime ranging from about 5 to 10 or occasionally 20 minutes.
Last week though there was a RED50 that was offline for 51 minutes before coming back online.

How long -on average- does or should it take a RED to come back online after a firmware upgrade?
Is 51 minutes still considered "normal"?

What's your experience?
All inputs are most welcome.

Thanks

  • Hi

Downtime for the RED starts the moment XG reboots to finish the firmware upgrade and lasts up to 5-7 mins after XG has rebooted. Now, time to upgrade each XG (Hardware or Software) varies. But it would never be 51 minutes, RED should come up once the XG has the internet connection and is ready to accept RED connections as well (Mostly in 5-7 mins after reboot). If there are issues with the Internet or the RED service in XG, that's the only time it can take this long. If this happens frequently, you should look into the RED logs to see what is going on for this particular RED device.

  • Do you have RED Beta Firmware enabled on XG? (General RED Tab Settings in XG).
