Unifi Ubiquiti Adoption

I recently purchased a Unifi Ubiquiti access point to extend the reach of my wireless network. I don't have any experience with wireless access points but I assumed that I could just plug it in and get to the device management page just like a consumer-grade router. To my surprise in order to use the device I had to download the Unifi controller software package, connect to the same network that the device was on, launch their software package, then manage the device from a service running from their software package. I was able to do this to "Adopt" the AP and integrate it with my network.

It works but this feels very clunky for configuration. I cannot use my desktop computer to manage the AP because it's on a different subnet.

After a week or two, I was poking around in Sophos XG Firewall and I noticed a Protect->Wireless->Access Points menu but there's no way to manually add anything to it. From what I've gathered, a new AP should broadcast some special packets and, I think, that is how it eventually shows up in the list of Access Points. So, I went to the configuration screen of the Unifi controller software and told it to forget the AP. I monitored a device that was using the AP's network to make sure I lost connection with it and it did. I went to the Sophos XG Firewall and kept refreshing the Access Points screen but nothing ever came up.

Is there a way to enable this so I can manage the Unifi Ubiquiti AP from within the Sophos XG Firewall firmware? As I mentioned, I'm not familiar with access points so maybe this question doesn't make sense, if that's the case please just let me know.

Thanks,

-Greg
