Steps to successfully migrate config from old XG115w to new XG115w

Hi Sophos Support,

I've got an XG115w from 2016 which has a total protect subscription which is running firmware SFOS 17.5.5 MR-5. I'm running SSL VPN and a couple of firewall rules.

I have purchased a new XG115w with Fullguard subscription. I want to migrate the config from the old firewall to the new one. I understand this can be done by backing up the old firewall config and importing to the new one. I figure I need to make sure the new firewall has the same or new firmware.

Do I need to activate the Fullguard subscription before importing the config? What else do I need to do?

Can anyone point me to the recommended steps for a successful migration? Anything to watch out for?

  • H,

login to your existing  and download the current version of the OS to your PC. Startup the new XG,probably standalone at this stage, login and check the software version and if required update it.

  • Thanks, I successfully was able to migrate the config from the old one to the new one.

Steps were: Plug the new XG into the network and register and activate licenses. Then I updated the firmware and definitions. Then I exported backup config from the old one, imported to the new one. I had to reboot the bridged modem a few times before it gave out the internet IP. But after that it was fine.

    Thanks for all your help.
