Sophos XG Home on old HP ProDesk, best NIC cards?

Hi everyone,

I'd like to use an old HP ProDesk for a Sophos XG Home setup.

It only comes with the standard NIC.

There are 3 slots for NICs, which NICs are compatible?

I'd like to get 3, something like this?

  • Hi Ian,

Finally got the 3 intel nics from cplonline and installed today :)

I've installed the XG Firmware but I'm stuck.

    See attached pics.

    1. It will not recognise the internet no matter which nic I use.

    2. I can't exit, when I press ZERO it just brings me back to the main menu.

    I'm obviously missing something?

If this should be in a separate thread let me know.

    Cheers, Martin

  • Hi Martin,

at this stage stay with this thread. If you issues go on for longer then pease start a new thread.

Did you have the two interfaces you wish to use active and did you get asked a question in the installation process about the interface. Make sure you do the initial configuration in router mode.

  • Hi Ian,

I only get the screens I posted in the Dropbox link I posted.

There's a LAN and WAN screen but only 2nics are showing in the setup.

The trouble is I don't know which NIC they're talking about.

I tried all 4 but none of them recognised the WAN connection.

  • Hi Martin,

I couldn't open the dropbox which I could just now.

Ignore the password request, you do that in the GUI as part of the setup.

My experience on identifying NICs is similar to what you are experiencing. Try the last two NICs as being the active ones.

Don't worry about the WAN connection just yet, concentrate on getting into the GUI setup screen which will be in your case the https://192.168.0.1:4444 (from memory that is what you changed your default XG address to).

How are you testing which interface is alive, using a switch?

    Ian

Your WAN interface will not work, there is no mask, also not sure where the 128.0.0.1 address comes from, seems a little strange?

  • Hi Ian,

Finally got into the web interface, took some time to get registered as ublock origin was blocking it :(

Many, many thanks for all your help :)

    Cheers, Martin
