How to block Discord gaming app? Don't see it in list of Applications.

Hello, how would i block Discord on my network?  I would like to use an application filter to block it, but its not in the list of Applications.  Can it be added to the list of Applications?  If not, is there any other way to block it?

  • Ok, i think adding it the PUA would be the best route, if that would get it added to the application list.   So, it looks like you have to be a member of Sophos Central , or is there another way to do that?

  • Hi,

not sure that would be the easiest approach because they can change the neme of the application and other stuff within it.

I take exception to a lot of software that calls home on a regular basis and built a firewall rule that rejected a site specifically then added the site to the application and web filters.

I created an application filter at top level only (not sure this has any affect), then created a new category, classified as objectionable and the domain of the offending site. Saved it.

Added the category to my active web policy.

  • Yes, that worked.  I just added "discordapp.com" to a web policy, and it blocks the app.  Thanks

Just in case anyone reading this needs more detail, i just went to Web policies, then to the categories tab, and added a new category, where i put in the Domain that i wanted to block.  Then go to the User Activities tab, and add an activity which is linked to the category that was just created.  Finally, on the policies tab, i added this activity to one of my policies that i was using under the Web policy on the firewall network rule.  There may be a different way of doing this but this worked for me.
